The Home Affordable Refinance Program (HARP) is an initiative of the U.S. federal government that was launched in 2009 to help distressed homeowners refinance their mortgages. HARP is often the last resort for those in danger of losing their homes.
One of the qualifications for HARP is that the mortgage must have been owned or guaranteed by Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae on or before May 31, 2009, the payments must be current with no late payments, and the current loan to value ratio must be over 80 percent.
Many homeowners are unaware of HARP or its often complex and changing requirements. The program was recently extended until September 2017, giving those with distressed mortgages an opportunity to keep their home. Legacy Park Mortgage is up to speed with the latest federal developments and can help you determine if this option is best for you.
